Organic tea maker Clipper – in pictures
Despite overseeing the doubling of production at the site over the past five years, Mark Bagwell – operations director for parent company Wessanen UK – plans to grow the business much further.
Food Manufacture visited the site last month to find out how Bagwell plans to make Clipper a global brand while remaining true to its Fairtrade and organic roots.
In this exclusive photogallery of images taken from our tour of the operation, you can learn about the tea-making process and the ongoing site redevelopment plans that will result in production capacity increasing almost five-fold.
Considerable changes at the business
Bagwell joined Clipper a decade ago, and by his own admission has witnessed considerable changes at the business.
In 2012, Dutch organic specialist Royal Wessanen bought Clipper from then owner Fleming Family & Partners.
Last year, the company was crowned Beverage manufacturing company of the year at the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards (FMEAs), after judges praised its ruthless cost control and ability to succeed in a tough market.
To find out more about entering this year’s awards, visit the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards website, or call Catherine Lyne on 01293 610439.

Meanwhile, another 2016 FMEA award winner was profiled last month as part of the Me and My Factory series.
Nim’s Fruit Crisps picked up the Small and medium-sized enterprise innovation of the year award for owner Nimisha Raja’s commitment to making the business succeed.
You can view how Raja produces her novel range of air-dried fruit and vegetable crisps in this exclusive tour of the company’s new 929m2 factory in Kent.
