Radnor Hills opens multi-million-pound production facilities
The drinks firm has invested in new production facilities and a quality assurance laboratory, as well as a £2.5m office complex for staff and a conference facility from an old agricultural building on site.
Radnor has also made a number of upgrades to its production lines, including a new £750,000 labeller and conveyer system. A £4.5m glass line investment has been completed in three phases, which included the ability to produce cardboard cluster packs for retailers.
A further £1.5m has been spent on an additional filler for a PET line, while another £750,000 has been invested in a new steam system.
Ongoing investment
Radnor founder and managing director William Watkins thanked the Welsh government for its support and reaffirmed the manufacturer’s commitment to ongoing investment in the factory.
“With the opening of our new office complex, we are also investing in our brilliant team of people,” he added. “During the last two years, over a hundred new jobs have been created and further job opportunities and apprenticeships are available throughout 2023, aligned with our expansion plans.
“We are also committed to environmental sustainability. Radnor is a zero to landfill site and our environmental management system and site have been certified to ISO 14001 standards.
Planning permission
“We’ve recently received planning permission for a £1.8 million solar farm to power our manufacturing site. This will produce two megawatts of power which is 21% of the company’s energy requirement and will support our pledge to the planet to become more sustainable and to protect the environment around us.”
The opening was marked by a visit from Wales Rural Affairs minister Lesley Griffiths, who toured the new facilities and met with Radnor’s fifty plus food manufacturing apprentices.
“I’m very pleased to officially open the new offices for Radnor Hills today,” said Griffiths. “The company embodies our vision for food and drink, in its commitment to continued innovation, embedding environmental sustainability within the operation of the business, and the value it places on staff.”
Meanwhile, temperature controlled supply chain and logistics specialist JS Davidson has invested almost £1m in a suite of improvements across the business.
