Two Magpies creates jobs in £80k factory expansion

The new 1,022m²​ bakery will eventually house the operations of the company’s two existing bakeries in Halesworth and Darsham, with 20 staff moving location.

“We’ve been planning this move for some time and it will make a huge difference to operations,”​ explained Two Magpies Owner and chief executive Steve Magnall.

More space, more volume, more control

“The new bakery will mean more space, more volume and a much greater control on output and efficiency across the production line. It will also reduce wasted miles as everything will be more centralised to serve our nine sites.”​

Two Magpies operates nine bakery/café sites across Norfolk and Suffolk and this latest investment will increase the baker’s output volumes and support its future growth.

Guy Watts, head of bakery and production at Two Magpies Bakery and oversaw the move to the new site, added: “The whole move has been plain sailing for the most part. So far, we’ve relocated our Halesworth bakery unit into the new site and Darsham will follow in due course. ​

Scope for bakery upscaling

“It’s a substantial operation to move a whole bakery, but the new site gives us so much more scope for upscaling production.”​

The investment also followed the opening of two new ‘Mini Magpies’ sites in Beccles and Wells-Next-The-Sea in the past six months.

“We have big plans over the next few months with an exciting new Christmas range coming soon. Two Magpies Bakery Group is definitely one to watch​,” Magnall concluded.

.Meanwhile, in other food factory investment news, last month saw drinks and snacking giant PepsiCo invest £58m in its Leicester Walkers factory​​, its biggest UK investment in the past 25 years, and create 100 new jobs.

The funds will be used to install a new production line to increase capacity and enable the manufacture of more Walkers snacks – notably Wotsits and Monster Munch.
