UK beer maker announces £9m brewery expansion
Founded in 1858, the brewer has been based at its Knowle Spring site for the past 160 years, where it produces cask, bottled and canned beers such as the Landlord and Boltmaker for the foodservice and retail sectors.
The brand also has an ecommerce platform, while it operates 19 pubs all of which are located in the Yorkshire area.
In a planning application submitted to Bradford Council, the brewer said that the brand’s continued success meant that it needs to continue to improve its facilities and production lines. According to the most recent accounts available on Companies House, Timothy Taylor’s made more than £2.3m in after tax profit during the financial year ending 30 September 2023.
Significant step for Timothy Taylor’s
Timothy Taylor’s chief executive Tim Dewey, who joined the firm in 2014, described the initial development as “quite a significant one” for the brewer that makes up part of a £9m investment plan that would be completed over the next five years.
“While the plan provides for increased capacity at the brewery, importantly, it will also enhance our resilience, health and safety, and ability to deliver quality beer as it will significantly upgrade our facilities, including additional storage for our Knowle Spring water (used in all our beer), yeast care, and cleaning,” he wrote in an article first published in the Yorkshire Post.
The development will involve the improvement of a “tired” part of the brewery, including a new roof and the removal of “redundant equipment”.
Dewey continued: “The project has been championed by our new operations director, Kevin Smithson, working with the brewing team, particularly Nick Berkovits, second brewer, and supported by Bowman Riley Architects, Skipton.”
Prior to joining the brewer, Dewey served as global marketing director and UK commercial director for The Drambuie Liqueur Company.
In other news, Hampshire-based sparkling wine producer Hambledon Vineyard has been acquired by Berry Bros & Rudd and Symington Family Estates.
